Marlene Silva was born and lives in Espinho. She grew up in her aunt’s sewing room, where she was more attracted by the stories she was told than the rags she was given to make clothes for her dolls. So she grew up surrounded by stories, her great passion. As you might expect, she graduated in Communication Sciences, where she has worked for over 20 years. In 2012, inspired by her niece, who was a child at the time, she wrote and released her first book of short stories, “À Conta dos Objetos”. Two years later, “À Conta da Família” was released. Both were illustrated by Raquel Balsa, who also illustrated “A Aldeia do Senhor Tempo”, with whom she has more than a working partnership, but a long-standing friendship.
Raquel Balsa, born in Viseu, is a designer with a degree in Communication Design from the University of Porto. Her career has been plural, rooted in design and intersecting with image and word in various areas. She worked in a paper mill where she designed products while listening to the pulp being turned. More recently, he has dedicated himself to community and participatory projects through research, design and photography. She often creates experimental notebooks inside and outside her project, vincilho. She has illustrated the books of Marlene Silva, a long-time friend, and this is the third book they have produced together.
