The Linden of the Square

As soon as the City Council’s decision to cut down some of the largest poplars in the municipal park was complied with, criticism and popular indignation were not long in coming. And without knowing how, or why, the truth is that from criticism we quickly moved on to the fear that the same fate would also hit the leafy lime trees of the square.

And spreading quickly, this criminal fear quickly reached the Ecological Cell, where Filipe, one of the most active members of this environmental club, planted such fear as if it were a deadly bomb. From that day on, the campaign in defense of the square’s lime trees never stopped, involving, with incredible enthusiasm, students from all schools.

And under the coordination of Professor Ester, the defense of the square’s lime trees was extended to the defense of all trees, through the organization of a forest cybercampaign that culminated in the newsworthy organization of the Day of the Tree and the Forest.

Throughout the narrative, the reader will also be able to know the version, in a school context, of two of the best-known legends of Arouca: the legend of Senhora da Mó and the legend of the orange trees of Burgo, cursed by Queen Santa Mafalda.
