Leonor and the ballerina in the wind

Beatriz Meirelles (Text) Acorn (Illustration)

Leonor received a very special birthday present: a music box with a Ballerina. Suddenly, the Wind came through the window and damaged her, just making her dance with the blow, coming out of the drawer and controlling the girl’s emotions. With the help of Grandfather, they went to Rua das Três Margaridas to repair it. When she fell asleep in the canopy, Leonor appeared small, along with the Wind and the Ballerina, who got rid of the music box, in the replica of that same street.

Will they be able to escape the traps of Rua das Três Margaridas, fixing the string of the Ballerina’s music box or will they have to keep, forever, the Wind in the drawer?

Author: Beatriz Meireles was born in Paredes on June 30, 1985. She lived in Porto for a few years and in Lisbon for a few months, when she took a training course in television journalism. She currently lives in Leça da Palmeira, together with her husband and son, and temporarily goes to the south of the country to write, a literary retreat par excellence. As a law graduate and master, she practiced law for more than a decade in her hometown of Paredes, despite her love for Penafiel, where her maternal family comes from. Since 2017, she has been the Councillor for Culture at Paredes Town Hall, a role that allows her to coordinate, among other interesting projects, the Orpheu Paredes Cultural Magazine and the Café Literário, as well as numerous art exhibitions at the Casa da Cultura de Paredes and other cultural venues. She has written some chronicles and short stories for local newspapers. She is the author of three published books: “Depois da morte (um amendoal em flor)” (2019), “O Visconde das camélias carmesins” (The Viscount of Crimson Camellias) (2020) and the children’s book “Filipe e o Rei da Nuvem” (Philip and the Cloud King) (2022). She has many others still hidden away to surprise readers. She is passionate about flowers, biographies, novels and poetry, as well as art. Her taste for beautiful things, places to travel, cultural heritage and the lives of men seriously drives her writing, a kind of nicotine for those who have never smoked a cigarette.
